Since 2000, the Menard County Health Department has been able to bring several programs to the women in Menard County in conjunction with the Office of Women's Health, Illinois Department of Public Health.
One of our first programs was Women's Good Health. This program offered a different health topic each month including domestic violence, menopause, heart disease, etc.

Then  we offered the program Keep It Pumpin'. This program gave women the opportunity to use exercise equipment and MCHD provided free babysitting!

The fall of 2002 we began the Heart Smart For Women program, which we called the Menard County HeartWalkers. This program continued until 2005. The program was developed with the Cooper Institute and focused on the importance of both nutrition AND physical activity for improved health and fitness. The fall of 2005 saw the addition of Heart Smart For Teens for PORTA 7th grade. Fall of 2006 we will continue with the PORTA schools and add Cantrall 6th grade. This 9-week program educates girls (targeting 5th through 9th grades) on risk factors of cardiovascular disease and teaches them the importance of a healthy diet and physical exercise.
