Additional Influenza Information

Who Should be Vaccinated ?

Persons 65 years or older.

Residents of nursing homes and other chronic-care facilities.

Adults and children who have respiratory diseases (including asthma) or heart disease.

Adults and children who have a chronic disease (e.g. diabetes or severe anemia), or immune-system problems (e.g. HIV infection or receiving medications such as chemotherapy or radiation therapy.)

Children and teenagers (6 months to 18 years) who are receiving long-term aspirin therapy and might be at risk for Reye’s syndrome.

Women who will be in the second or third trimester of pregnancy during the flu season.

Healthcare workers, and persons employed by hospitals, clinics, offices, and long-term care institutes who directly care for and have close contact with person’s at high risk for complications of flu.

Who should NOT be vaccinated

People who have had a serious reaction to eggs, chicken feathers, or chicken dander should not receive the vaccine.

People who have had a serious reaction to previous influenza vaccine.

People who have ever developed Guillain-Barre Syndrome within 6 weeks of receiving an influenza vaccine.

 People who have an infection or have a fever should wait until symptoms disappear before receiving the vaccine.
